I started off before dawn and this time slow cruised up the lake (too fast for trolling). When I could see I ran up to Beaver Dam. I started spotting some scattered fish so I set out the lines. Nothing happened. So I kept going.

Above Beaver Dam to Lynville was a good stretch a week or two ago. Not today. So I kept trolling, and trolling, and trolling, and unsnagging a lure, and trolling. I was only seeing a few scattered fish, no bunches, no schools. I went up as far as the big red barn, and then turned around. On the way up I saw a few other boats but they were looking too. They would stop and fish a minute but never stay in one place for long. And I didn't see any fish boated. So I kept trolling down lake.

The fast trolling I do is a fairly effective way to search for fish because I cover a lot of water quickly. Many times I have passed a "known" spot only to find fish 200 yards beyond. Anyway, I trolled all the way back to Indian seeing and catching nothing. As I was rounding the curve at R36 I actually caught a fish! A spunky 17". Another loop in that area got nothing so I kept on going.

Almost back to R31 I actually went over a real school of fish. Had to be a few dozen running 18-25 ft in less than 30ft of water. I should have at least snagged one! And with that disappointment, I called it quits.

Maybe out tomorrow. Bundle up, its chilly out there.

Later Joel
