We are coming off of an interesting open tournament during held on June 9th. Sixteen boats entered the tournament with the first prize being won by Team James Gray with a two fish weigh of 25.70 lbs. Good job to James Gray’s Team. We had 16 boats enter with 12 of them weighing in fish. Mark Barber took the largest fish prize for his 17.18 fish along with the $350 of prize money.
Bill Pecoraro, Joel Janecek and Gary Disbrow and I were one of the teams and this is the first tournament I have fished where our boat managed to end up with a fairly respectable catch. It is only my third and yes, I did compete against many better or many more informed contestants as where the fish were. But each time I think I get a little better at it. And that becomes my soap box for our other members. About the only way you have a chance is to get out there and give it a try. When I look at the $25 entry fee ($100 boat fee shared by 4 team mates), I see it as a donation to the club as the worst case. It can be less than a night out in a restaurant and it simply becomes part of my learning experiences. So I suggest to all the other club members, do not debate how good your chances are or worry about who you might be competing against, just go ahead and enter and give it a try. Just remember, if you do not enter, you cannot ever win.
